Housing & Property

As a resident and homeowner in the City of Waukesha here are a few resources to help you out as long as you live here:

Permits

Main home improvement activities require permits to be pulled. Anything from renovations, electrical work, installing a pool and more require permits. For permit applications, please review our Permits/Licenses page. If you have any questions, please contact the department that the permit is organized under from their department main page or via email from our contact us form.

Property Maintenance

The City of Waukesha is committed to providing safe living conditions for all its residents. It takes a cooperative effort of investors, owners, tenants and the city to achieve a successful property maintenance program. For property maintenance guidelines please refer to City of Waukesha Municipal Code, Chapter 17.

For additional information about property maintenance, please review the Property Maintenance page.

Property Assessments

The Waukesha City Assessor’s Office is responsible for the discovery, listing, and valuation of all real estate and personal property within the City of Waukesha in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with state law. Wisconsin law requires that property assessments are valued based on fair market value, meaning the price a typical buyer would pay for the property. This is accomplished by considering what similar properties are selling for, the costs of replacing the property, income and expense a property may generate, and any other factors that may influence value.

For additional information about property assessments or to view this year's assessment roll, please visit the Property Assessment page.

Property Tax

Property tax is part of homeownership and will be billed each year. To lookup your tax information, use our Parcel Inquiry tool on the Property Tax page and you can look up your tax information via tax key or street address.

Grant & Loan Programs

The City of Waukesha has a few grant and loan programs offered to residents and business owners in the city to help rehabilitate their homes and businesses.

For more information, please review the "Grants for Homeowners" section on the Grant & Loan Programs page.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

A GIS is a computer-based information system that stores geographic data, and allows for the storage, analysis, management and visualization of that data. The data available on this site utilizes the City of Waukesha Geographic Information System (GIS), and provides up-to-date geographic information to the general public and to various departments throughout the City of Waukesha.

To view the set of maps the City of Waukesha has available via GIS, please review the GIS page.
